How to switch bookkeepers with a clear handover
Keep records and responsibilities organized during the transition.
Agree on a handover date
Choose a cutoff for the outgoing provider and a starting period for the new one. Confirm responsibility for outstanding work, payroll, and upcoming filings.
Collect your financial history
Arrange access to reports, reconciliations, source documents, and relevant tax records. Note unresolved balances and missing information.
Review access and ownership
Keep appropriate control of your accounts. Agree on access for your new provider and remove access that is no longer needed after the handover.
Confirm your first deliverables
Agree on the reporting period, any cleanup work, and how documents will be supplied. A written scope helps everyone understand the next steps.
